How To Help

The purpose of Helping Our Kids, Inc. is to enhance, enrich, and better the lives of children in and around Scranton, Arkansas. Our goal is to foster a sense of community pride, belonging, and worth, encouraging our youth to one day contribute back to the community that raised them.

What We Do

Each day, our board members and volunteers work closely with the dedicated teachers and staff of the Scranton School District. As a team, we seek out children in financial need or those whose circumstances have created a lack of basic necessities. We provide tangible resources including coats, shoes, clothing, school supplies, books, food, personal items, and gifts. These items are donated directly to the child or the child's family to ensure immediate impact.

Note: To maintain the highest level of accountability and direct care, Helping Our Kids, Inc. does not distribute cash.

Food Security & Nutritional Support

1. Food Security & Nutritional Support

Hunger doesn’t take the weekend off, and neither do we. We understand that a hungry child cannot focus, learn, or grow. To combat food insecurity in the River Valley, we provide consistent nutritional support to school-age children and their families.

  • Weekend Meal Programs: Providing "backpack" style bags filled with easy-to-prepare, nutritious meals for students to take home.

  • Emergency Pantry Access: Serving over 2,450 adults and 1,000 children monthly with essential groceries and shelf-stable goods.

  • Local Distribution: We focus our efforts specifically on Scranton, ensuring help reaches our neighbors directly.

Hygiene & Essential Care Kits

2. Hygiene & Essential Care Kits

Dignity is a vital part of a child's success in school. Often, families are forced to choose between buying food or buying soap and toothpaste. We bridge that gap by providing essential hygiene supplies that are often not covered by other assistance programs.

  • Student Care Packages: Distributing toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, and feminine hygiene products.

  • School District Partnerships: Working closely with the Scranton School District to identify students in need and provide supplies discreetly to avoid any social stigma.

  • Confidence Through Care: By meeting these basic needs, we help local students attend school with confidence and pride.
